About URLCODA
The acronym URLCODA stands for Uganda Rural Literacy
and Community Development Association. Its emergence as a prominent
grassroots organisation in West Nile region focusing on literacy as
a crucial tool for realising socio-economic transformation among the
rural poor is greatly attributed to the voluntary efforts of Mr. Willy
Ngaka who is currently a PhD candidate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal
in South Africa. It is an indigenous not for profit organisation registered
with the National NGO Board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uganda.
In its organisational structure, there is a Board which comprises of
5 members (3 ladies and 2 gentlemen) elected by the General Assembly
to handle policy issues and give direction to the organisation. Its
day-to-day activities are run by the Secretariat headed by a Director
who works hand in hand with the National Liaison Officer. At the moment,
all the 24 people working in the secretariat are volunteers.
At the moment, URLCODA operates in Arua district and has
its offices located in Aroi Sub County. It is working with the leaders
and people of four Sub Counties of Aroi, Manibe, Kijomoro and Oluvu.
