Our Vision, Mission and Organisational
Objectives
Vision
The vision of URLCODA is: towards a literate, secure, healthy and
peaceful society that fosters sustainable grass-roots development.
Mission statement
URLCODA exists to empower the rural communities to use literacy
as a tool for achieving socio-economic and cultural transformation
through various livelihood strategies.
Organisational objectives
Amongst other things, URLCODA was established to achieve
the following objectives:

To provide non-formal, basic and intergenerational
literacy/education and training for the members of the community
-
To mobilise the communities to fight HIV/AIDS and
other diseases that compromise communities wellbeing
-
To offer consultancy services and conduct research
in the areas of sustainable agriculture, health, environment, education,
poverty and other related issues for the benefit of the public
-
To provide economic and psychosocial support to
the infected and/or affected people with special emphasis on orphans
and vulnerable children, and HIV + people
-
To promote girl-child education among the communities
by creating opportunities for female scholarships
-
To conserve the environment for sustainable agriculture
and rural development through activities such as organic farming,
aforestation, re-aforestation, agro-forestry, and participatory
breeding of plant species
-
To promote a spirit of co-operation and partnership
among agencies and people of different denominational/cultural orientations
to fight rural poverty
-
To engage the members of the community in income
generating activities as a strategy to alleviate poverty
-
To establish a multipurpose community telecentre
to provide training/education in aspects that are crucial for wellbeing
of the members of the community; and

To encourage the spirit of voluntarism among the
people, especially the youth so as to promote grass roots level
development
